GemGuide Pricing APPlication FAQ’s

Here are some of the common answers to questions regarding using the GemGuide Pricing APPlication.


  • Having Troubles loading your Database on Apple iphone 5/6 or ipads using Safari?

    First make sure within your Settings, under Safari, that Block Cookies are enabled “from Third Parties”.

    With the New Upgrades to the apple iphone/ipad operating system (os 7.1 and Higher) comes a new privacy feature, that when TURNED ON prevents the database for GP from Loading.

    First time logging in you should get the following screen. If when pressing “Get Database” the application just seems to load for more than 15 seconds (as shown below) you need to check your Private Settings. To do this you click on the stacked pages in the lower right corner of the screen on black menu bar.You should get a screen that will tell you if the Private Setting, located in the lower left corner is on or off. White Box around PRIVATE means it is ON (see below). You need to turn this OFF. Simply Click the word “PRIVATE” itself to disable the feature.IMG_1879
    The next screen will ask you to Close All Pages. Please select “Close All”. IMG_1882Then you just need to log back into the application and the Database will now load.


  • Confused on how to change your password?

    You can change your password two different ways:

    1. Click on Subscribers login and enter your old user name and password. After you login, click on My Account. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on Edit Profile. At the bottom of the edit profile list is password. Please enter twice and click on Save all Changes.

    2. Click on Subscribers login and click on Lost Password. You will be forwarded an email with a link to reset your password.

    If you have any problems, please forward the password you would like to use and Gemworld can reset for you.


  • Create a shortcut for GemGuide Pricing in Web Browsers for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer?

    To create a short cut for an internet page in Google Chrome, please follow instructions below.

    1. Open Google Chrome and go to the page that you would like to create a shortcut. For GemGuide Pricing it would be the first page of the pricing that lists the different types of stones, i.e., diamond, colored stones, pearls….

    2. Click on the icon with the three horizontal lines in the upper right hand corner of Google Chrome. A drop down window will appear.

    3. Click on Tools. Another drop down window will appear.

    4. Click on Create Application Shortcuts

    5. Make sure Desktop is checked and click on Create.

    Look on your desktop for the newly created icon. When accessing the GemGuide Pricing in the future, click on the new icon.

    To create a short cut for an internet page in Firefox, please follow the instructions below.

    1. Open Firefox and go to the page that you would like to create a shortcut. For GemGuide Pricing it would be the first page of the pricing that lists the different types of stones, i.e., colored gemstones, diamonds, opals …

    2. See the Firefox symbol right next to the www? It is greyed out. Left mouse click and hold on that icon and drag that symbol to your desktop.

    Look on your desktop for the newly created icon. When accessing the GemGuide Pricing in the future, click on the new icon.

    Internet Explorer

    To create a short cut for an internet page in Firefox, please follow the instructions below.

    1. Open Internet Explorer and go to the page that you would like to create a shortcut. For GemGuide Pricing it would be the first page of the pricing that lists the different types of stones, i.e., colored gemstones, diamonds, opals …

    2. In the upper left hand corner (the toolbar), go to File > Send > Shortcut to desktop.

    NOTE: Can’t see the toolbar? Go to Tools on the right hand side, select Toolbars, check Menu box.

    Look on your desktop for the newly created icon. When accessing the GemGuide Pricing in the future, click on the new icon.


  • How do you use Currency & Mark Up Rates?

    You can set your default currency by accessing "My Account" from the www.gemguide.com website (login required). Select one of the twelve different currencies and click on Save Changes. Exchange rates are updated daily in your account using prices from openexchangerates.org. The next time you open the on-line pricing, all prices will be converted to the default currency. Or you can change your currency within the on-line pricing by using the currency drop-down field.

    Markup rates can also be updated by accessing “My Account” from the www.gemguide.com website (login required). You can change the Default Markup Multipliers for the following categories: Colored Gemstones, Diamonds, Opals, Pearl Strands, Pearls, and Colored Diamonds. You can use the up or down arrows to change the rate, or enter a rate directly. Enter decimals for multipliers that are less than a whole number. Markup rates do not have to be the same for all categories. Click on Save Changes when finished.

    You can access pricing tables with markup rates by clicking on the letter R (within the circle) that is located next to the currency field. The letter R will become a visible white letter denoting Retail or Markup pricing. Click on the letter R again, the R becomes grayscale and wholesale GemGuide pricing tables will display.IMG_1879


  • Do you have information on how to use the GemGuide?

    If you receive the printed version, information on the use of GemGuide Pricing is located at the beginning of the diamond section and the beginning of the colored stone section.

    If you are a digital subscriber, you have access to the flipbook and also the integrated price grids. To get to the flipbook, to go www.gemguide.com and log in. Under the first header “The GemGuide” scroll down to “Current Publication” for the flipbook. Click on Table of Contents to access the links directly to the diamond and colored stone sections. This information text is repeated in the digital version by clicking on the “?” symbol at the top right corner when you are in the diamond or colored stone charts.
